Bird Totem, two tall upright shapes form the lower part of the sculpture which is capped by sweeping outstretched outlines that could be seen as wings or arms. The entire piece creates an impression of massive weight, but the height and the sharp angular forms enliven the visual effect. A surprising lightness provided by the vertical movement upwards through the centre of the work provides a sense of dynamism to the large forms. The silhouette of the whole block and of the deleted area contest each other and enhance the vigorous impact.
